
Structure
eSUN has been developed for adults who wish to build a firm understanding of Japanese "Stey by Step". eSUN is divided into for levels, consisting of 25 lessons apiece. At the end of every group of 5 lessons, there is a Review Quiz to assess your listening, grammar, and speaking skills.

Make basic conversations, using greetings and other useful expressions. Carry out minimum necessary communications, such as shopping, asking directions, making requests, inviting, etc. |
| Level 2 |
 |
Talk about time and locations, make phone calls, ask people to do something or consult them. Make careful and polite expressions, express likes and dislikes. Permission and prohibitions. Express feelings in an indirect manner. |
| Level 3 |
 |
Express wishes to others. Compare various things in varied ways. Speak more precisely with nuances, such as appearance, estimation, intention, reporting, probability, possibility, suggestion, recommendation, obligation, duty, general expectation, preparation, experience, etc. |
| Level 4 |
 |
Develop more in-depth friendship. Appreciate basic difference between spoken language and written language. Express a third-person's emotions appropriately. Carry out confessions and opinions. Manipulate sophisticated language, like business negotiations and presentations. |

Dialog
The videos consist of real-life situations taking place between F (Foreigner) and J (Japanese)
The first time through, confirm that you do not understand much or any of the content.
You may choose either Japanese, Romaji (Romanized Japanese), Japanese or No Caption for a video script.
Always come back to the Dialog when finishing each Lesson, and you will be amazed with your improvement. Also, reduce the sound volume, and play the roles out-loud.

Apart from the newly introduced words in the Dialog, additional related vocabulary and phrases are provided.
You can click on every word to listen to the pronunciation. Repeat the word until you master the pronunciation.

Grammar
Japanese is a very form-oriented language, and its grammar rules are quite regular and straightforward with a few exceptions if properly analyzed. Such regularity is analyzed and explained in detail.
Japanese mindsets woven in the language are also discussed in detail where applicable.

Drills
Here you practice listening & speaking skills for what you have learned in the Grammar section.
You will always see two characters, one "genderless" and the other "ageless" in each drill. Listen carefully to the patterns and practice speaking by projecting yourself into the brown character and recording your own voice in the voice recorder.

Listening Test
Here you will challenge your listening skill by listening to the audio and answering the questions by clicking on the appropriate answer.
These tests are for your benefit, and do not show up as test scores, so take them as many times as you like for practice purposes.

Utilization
Here you will be given a situation you might encounter. Respond to this by recording your answer with the voice recorder.

Review Quiz
After every 5 lessons, there is a review quiz.
Each Review Quiz is divided into 3 sections: Listening, Grammar and Speaking.
The Speaking Test is optional, and is graded by native Japanese teachers for Accuracy, Sophistication, Pronunciationand Task Completion. The results are shown as a graph similar to the one at the left.

Mastery Test
At the end of each Level there is a Mastery Test.
If you score more than 70%, you will be presented with the Step Up Nihongo course completion certificate.
